Pasar Badung
The biggest and best of Denpasar’s traditional markets is the chaotic Pasar Badung, which stands at the heart of the downtown area, set slightly back offJalan Gajah Made, in a three-storey covered stone and brick pasar beside Sungai Badung. Trading takes place here 24 hours a day, with buyers and sellers pouring in from all over the island. Despite first impressions, the market is laid out in very clear sections, with meat in the basement, fresh fruit and vegetables on the ground floor, spices and pulses on the first floor, and clothes, batik and ceremonial gear at the top. Be prepared to find yourself landed with a guide: local women hang out around the market entrance and are keen to accompany tourists round the market.
