Tanah lot

Submitted by on Wednesday, 4 June 2008No Comment

Tanah Lot is located around 35 km from capital city denpasar .located on the coast of West Bali, at the village of Beraban in the Regency of Tabanan.

tanah lot is also called Tanah Let which means ancient land and also Tanah Lod, which means the land to the south.During high water the rock takes on the appearance of a large boat at sea, such is its shape.
When the tide is low people can walk to the temple.
It looks like a floating one if the tide is high. There are many caves under the temple.

The Temple was built in the 15th century by the priest, Danghyang Nirartha from Majapahit Java. Near this Temple there are several small and big shrines, the biggest one is Pekendungan Temple. There is a spring considered sacred not far from this temple.

the temple is simple construction, is dramatic in its ocean-front location and is one of the main temples in the worship of Balinese gods.
the most unique in tanah lot is the Poisonous snake, live in the nearby caves people believe the snake is ‘guardian’ the temple .
