Batur Temple commonly called Ulun Danu Temple is situated at 900
metersabove level of Kalanganyar, five kilometers north of penelokan,
the temple is the second most important temple on the island after
the besakih temple it’s a facinating temple
to visit as there are usully pilgrims making offerings or praying, and the mist that frequently shrouds the area adds to atmosphere.

the original temple was located down in the crater until the 1926 eruptions of mount batur destroyed the whole of batur village. shrines and relics that could be saved were taken up onto the crater rim and the village and temple were rebuilt.the present temple structures are quit modern, and the contructions is still under way, with more than ninety shrines completed out of the planned total of almost three hundred.the temple honours Ida batara Dewi ulun danu , the goddess of the crater lake, who controls the water for the irrigation systems through out the island and shares dominion of bali with the god of mount agung
