Balinese Hinduism adherents
Most of the Balinese are Hinduism adherents (about 93.30%) by 2002 cencus of the total population : 3.375.292 people). The other religions are : Islam (5.23%), Christian Protestant (0.51%), Catholic (0.33 %) and Budhist (0.58 %). The main principles of Hinduism are : "Tattwa" (philosophy), ethics (rules of conduct) and ritual/ceremony, with holy scripture called Wedha consisted of four parts (samhita) :
- Reg Wedha Samhita.
- Sama Wedha Samhita
- Yajur Wedha Samhita
- Attharwa Wedha Samhita.
- The essence of Hinduism teaching is called : Panca (Craddha FiveFaiths) :
- Widhi (Craddha, believe m God Almighty (Ida Sanghyang Widhi Wasa).
- Atma (Craddha, believe in the existence of "atman" or spirit in every God’s creature.
- Karma Phala (Craddha, believe m the consequence of a conduct accordingly.
- Punar Bhawa (Craddha, believe in rein-carnation or rebirth after death.
- Moksha (Craddha, believe in eternal happiness after death as the consequence of good conduct when alive.
The objective of life for Hindu Balinese as written in the Holy Scripture, Wedha is : "Moksartham Jagadditha Ya Ca Ithi Dharma" means :
"with religion to achieve physical welfare as.well as Spiritual happiness". Holy place to worship Ida Sanghyang Widhi God Almighty with His manifestations is called : "Pura", which is according to its function can be classified into two kinds :
-Public Temple to worship God as the Creator of the Universe, the Preserver and the Abolisher.
- Clan Temple, to worship the ancestral Holy Spirits.Any ritual or ceremony offered to Ida Sanghyang Widhi God Almighty is called : "Yadnya"; in general, there are five kinds of ritual in Bali called : "Panca Yadnya" :
- Dewa Yadnya, ritual or offering respectfully offered to Ida Sanghyang
Widhi Wasa (God Almighty with His manifestations). - Resi Yadnya/ ritual or offering offered to highpriests or priests.
- Manusa Yadnya, rituals held along human life-cycle time started from the time inside the mother’s womb, infancy, childhood, coming of age, adulthood up to death.
- Pitra Yadnya, rituals held to worship ancestor spirits.
- Butha Yadnya, rituals held to exorcise or to please the underworld spirits or powers who maintain the natural balance.
