Description
The black colour of Delod Berawah sand beach comes through natural process since at the beginning the area and its neighbourhood was once a swamp (in Balinese called Berawah) so the people living at the village on the North then called the newly formed village as Delod Berawah (“Delod” means South, in Balinese). This beach like the estuary of Perancak river nearby used to be occupied by crocodiles, but there is no more crocodiles left nowadays because people hunted and killed them all.
One thing still left is a crocodile statue, just to recollect the people of Delod Berawah’s memory of the past. On the North of Delod Berawah beach is a field where “Mekepung” (traditional water-buffalo race) regularly held. The field is considered the best in Jembrana since it can also be used during rainy season.
“Mekepung” is a special traditional attraction when two buffaloes driven carts with their respective jockey involve themselves in a race. This kind of attraction can only be found in Jembrana regency.
