Peliatan Village
Peliatan village is one of the villages with quite dense population in Gianyar Regency.Part of the people has hardly piece of land to cultivate/ so most of them then have changed his works to different sector which is more promising.
Peliatan village belongs to Ubud district, Gianyar Regenc It stretches from North to South/ with plains and it is about 300 400 above the sea level. It is 2 km from Ubud, 10 km from Gianyc or about 22 km from Denpasar. The traffic to this village is smoot enough because of wellpaved roads and regular public transport available. Many tourists visit this village in order to see around and lev the crafts produced by the people or to watch arts perfomances almost daily.
Peliatan village has a sufficient potency in cultural art because it is the centre of artists in Ball. In this village various kinds of arts are developed such as statue carving, wood carving and painting. In this village, there are also well-known artists, living who have got national and international reputation such as: A.A. Gede Mandra, I Wy. Gandra, I Wy. Gerindem, and I Made Lebah, all of whom are under the artistgroup of Gunung Sari Orchestra. They have attracted a lot of visitors to come and visit this village.Many of the tourists sometimes want to enjoy the art by participating in it.They leam to play the orchestra and study to dance under the guidance of those teachers mentioned above.Statue carving and painting have developed since the arrival of Hindu Religion. However they were dedicated for Religios purposes at first. At the time of R. Bonnet, a Swiss artist staying.
R. Bonnet is always remembered for having introduced the artists of Peliatan to the World. At Peliatan/ there was a kind of interest to combine the existed arts with the style introduced by R.Bonnet.
