PUPUTAN BADUNG PARK
Denpasar City is known for being the focus of “Puputan”, the total war against the Dutch colonialist taking – place in September 20 th, 1906, at the time when the people of Badung involved themselves in a very heroic struggle, a war till the last drop of their blood to defense their beloving country home. This heroic moment is always commemorated every September 20 th and for that a Monurnent called “Puputan Badung” was built on the Northem side of the square shaded by some big trees framing it.
Local people with family froin every comer of the city regularly visit the park in the aftemoon and on Sundays various programs for children are held to make the atmosphere more cheerful. Puputan square is also the site where some rituals are held like : “Saraswati” Holiday to celebrate the descend of Holy Commands of Vedas, “Tawur Agung Kesanga”, (Great Sacrificial Ceremony to welcome Nyepi, the Isaka New Year), and “Ogoh-ogoh” procession m the evening. The Puputan Badung Park is surrounded by Pura Agung Jagatnatha, Bali Museum, Jaya Sabha the Governor of Bali’s
residence and Udayana military headquarter.
PURA AGUNG JAGATNADHA
JAGATNATHA Temple as a holy place is located on Mayor Wisnu Street/ North – East of Puputan Badung Park. It is strategically located for being close to the other places of interest within the City Tour package and visitors will be very much interested in its traditional architecture.
This temple is the focus of religious activities held by the locals during Hindn holidays, especially every full moon night. It can easily be reached by public transport from three main terminals like : Ubung, Tegal and Kreneng.
