Putung Natural Tourist Object
Putung area is located at
East Duda village, district of Selat,Karangasem regency. It is about 64 km from Denpasar or about 19 km from Amiapura, the capital town and can easily be reached by any kind of motor vehicle.on a highland surrounded by dense vegetation and “Salak” plantation with fresh weather. “Salak” (the local fruit with thorny skin) is a dominant plantation product of this area.The main attraction of this place of interest is its natural beauty, a wonderful combination between mountain and sea view. If one looks forward, one will see terraced farm of the locals covering the hill, from the top down the hill, the valley with dense and green forest and lush vegetation. Down of the hill one can see beds of ricefield near Buitan and Labuhan Amuk where ships cast anchors and fishermen’s traditional “Jukungs” catching fish down the blue seawater. While at the distance Nusa Penida Island can be vividly seen from the hill.Facility
There is a simple accommodation and a restaurant built by the local Government of Karangasem regency completed with spacious parking lot and tennis court. New road connected Putung-Manggis is now under construction and expected can shorten the distance between Candi Dasa and Putung and it will be no need to go around through Amiapura
any more on a distance about more than 25 km.
Tourist Visit
Putung as a tourist object is often visited by both domestic and foreign visitors because of its natural beauty its cool weather and peaceful atmosphere, far from any pollution and noisy. Instead of that visitors can also visit salak plantation around the tourist object.
Description
History about Putung is almost unknown since there is no. manuscript ever left. However, the elderly told that long time ago this area belonged to Manggis traditional village. An epidemic spread up once upon a time, when a lot of peole lost their lives and no one cared about the neglected dead bodies. At a village named Bakung a corpse was found decaying and considered to make the village “leteh” (besmirched). Since the locals considered careless, negligent and disobeyed the regulation so by the village board of Manggis, Bakung village was then dismissed from the membership of the village – board and become
“Putung” (solitair).Since that time on the village named Putung and managed independently by the locals up to this time, however it administratively belongs to East Duda Village.
The relationship existed between Putung and the traditional vilage of Manggis is admitted by some elderly people of Putung who once ever attended the village meeting at Manggis. The natural beauty of Putung has been known every wher showing to the paintings of Mr. Christiano, an Italian painter where lived at Putung for several years and married a local woman of manggis
Manggis.
