Sebatu and Pujung Village
Identification and point of attraction
Sebatu village is located at the northern part of Tegallalang village which is also within the territory of Tegallalang district,where as Pujung village is under the jurisdiction of Sebatu Village. The attractive point of these two villages are the people who are living with their agricultural activities and as statues carvers. If you go there along the road while walking you can see people carving. At the traditional village of Sebatu, one will find a temple called Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple. In this temple one can see a spring, where the people come to battue and take water for every day needs.
Sebatu and Pujung village are located at the northern part of Ubud Village. It can be reached through two routes i.e. from the south via Peliatan village and from the east via Tampaksiring Village which is about 6 km in distance, with magnificient view. It is 33 km from Gianyar, the capital town or about 38 km from Denpasar.
One can go there by any kinds of vehicles. Visit There are lots of tourists visiting Sebatu and Pujung villages in order to see and buy crafts made of wood, like : wooden banana tree, flowers, antique statue, Garuda statues and the like. Acording to the cronicle of “Bhuwana Tatwa Maha Rest Markandeya” which narrated the visit of the Highpriest (Maha Rest) Markandeya to Ball in 18th century. He built a temple in Tohlangkir, further he went to the west and built Sarwada Village which is now well-known as Taro village. He also built a temple, known as ‘Gunung Raung Temple‘. Facing the facts thai Sebatu village is in the east boundary with Taro village, then the journey of this Highpriest from Gunung Agung continued Taro village via Sebatu village. The name of Sebatu is connected with a story in “Usada Ball” manuscript i.e. Mayadenawa story. At the time of war between Mayadenawa and God Indra,Mavadenawa was defeated. He ran away, and in his escape he lied to avoid his enemies troops by transforming himself into many kinds of things using his magical powers. However his efforts were always in vain and when he arrived at one place, because of his fatique, he slipped on a stone, so then this placed was called “Sauhbatu” (“Sauh” means slip, “batu” means stone). In its development, it becomes Sebatu as a result of modificational process.
