Tihingan village is located at Banjarangkan District Klungkung regency (3 km west of Semarapura). The village car be reached easily by motor vehicle (two-wheeled and four wheeled ) through asphalted road.
Tihingan village belonging to Banjarangkan District is known as the centre of “Gamelan” makers. “Gamelan Gong” making process involves hard workers as well as special experts to pitch the “gamelan” tone, so special skill is very much needed for this work. There are two groups of Gamelan makers called “Pande”
Tihingan village is frequently visited by both domestic and foreign visitors, but dominant visitors are the locals who come for “gamelan” for ceremonial purpose. This village is known in Ball as the centre of “Gamelan” Gong and other sets of traditional
music-instruments like :

  1. Semara Pegulingan,
  2. Gender Wayang (music-instrument to ac-
    company shadow puppet performance),
  3. “angklung” (special music instrument to accompany human life cycle ceremonies)

and so on made of “kerawang” metal (metal with special process). This special skill has long been inherited from their ancestors known as “Pande Gong from Tihingan Village”.Balinese Gamelan produced by Tihingan village has been known in Indonesia or even overseas for its special tone and appearance, so no wonder if one sometime find some foreigners visiting Tihingan to study more about Gamelan or to order one set of it to take it to their country.
