Kamandalu Hotel
Kamandalu Hotel occupies an area of 3.5 hectares and the design and layout are very attractive. From the banks of the Petanu River, you can see the valley with the green terraces of Alang-Alang grass while experiencing the fresh breezes in the romantic lounge. Maybe I should mention here that Kamandalu is good at arranging romantic dinners and many other types of events.
So, how about the food and beverage outlets? I had dinner in the Cempaka Kafe, which was pleasant and needed no air-conditioning or fans as the fresh breeze was sufficient. The Petulu Restaurant is a real culinary experience, serving a variety of tempting creations, from Bali’s rich traditional cuisine to South East Asian curries and international specialties. How do I know this? Although I was in Cempaka Kafe, I ordered from the Petulu menu!
The Swim-up Bar offers refreshing drinks and snacks and the Kodok Club is Kamandalu’s friendly bar where guests can meet to chat and enjoy a cocktail.
Dining in your own villa is another option and I can see how some people might like this if they are in a large group but it seems a bit anti-social to me. Maybe this is because whenever I stay in a hotel, I am alone, so I feel the need to get out and meet other people.
There are a number of recreational activities on offer to guests, such as jogging tracks, a large swimming pool and a children’s pool, nature walking and mountain-biking, tennis and all the daily cultural activities in downtown Ubud.
As a long-term resident of Bali with my own comfortable home here, I often feel a bit isolated when I have to stay in a hotel to write an article but I didn’t have this feeling at Kamandalu. I think the difference was that the staff were so friendly and willing to help. I should say, to be fair, that I have also experienced this at The Maya in Ubud and The Club at The Legian in Seminyak; just in case anyone gets upset!
I would recommend Kamandalu to groups, families and to single visitors, as all of you will be happy with the service they provide.
